Summer Solstice: Roman Ruins in Luxembourg

On Monday 21st June, we will have (weather permitting) a summer solstice photography excursion to some Roman ruins near Mamer and Goeblange. Meeting point is the Parking at Baths Mambra in Mamer at 19:30, then proceeding after that site to the Villa Romaine de Goeblange. Hope to see you there!

Foyer européen closed until further notice, activities continue online

Due to the Corona virus crisis, the Foyer européen will be closed from Monday 16 March until futher notice. This means that the weekly meetings, the trainings and the reservation of the studio cannot take place for the time being.

However, this does not mean that the activities of Photo club CIEL will stop. We propose to have online meetings instead. You can join us on Mondays from 20:00 to 22:00 via Zoom.

Check out the updated programme!

How do I connect to the meeting on Monday?

1.     Install Zoom on your computer.
2.     Open Zoom and fill in your name, so we know who you are.
3.     Click on Join a meeting and fill in the following meeting ID: 674-596-8967

Can´t you show this in a video?

The Zoom website has plenty of short and clear video tutorials.

We are looking forward to seeing you online!

Herbal History

To mark International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 May, CIEL member Jonas Byström published a smartphone booklet entitled Herbal History. It matches quotes concerning nature — from Aristotle to Pope Francis by way of Victor Hugo — with photographs created from the exhibits of a 1950s herbarium (a collection of dried and preserved plants, usually with notes concerning the species or other botanical information). As Jonas notes, “We are now losing nature faster than it can restore itself, and the signs of irreversible and irreparable damage are accumulating”. His intention is to “raise awareness about the need to change and act now, before it is too late.” The subtle and delicate images which Jonas has produced from this unique source wonderfully reflects both the beauty and fragility of the natural world upon which we depend for our very survival. Click on the image or the book title above to visit Jonas’s website and download the free booklet.
